Zepto, a quick-commerce platform, said that its chief operating officer (COO), Vinay Dhanani, will take over as president-supply chain and category.
Vikas Sharma, senior vice president of operations, will take over as COO in place of Dhanani, while Viral Jhaveri has been promoted to chief growth officer (CGO), beginning June 2023.
Zepto, which receives funding by Y Combinator's Continuity Fund, hired Ramesh Bafna as chief financial officer last month. Bafna joins Zepto from CoinSwitch Kuber, where he was CFO since June of last year. His appointment comes as the Mumbai-based firm prepares to go public in two to three years.
Dhanani, who will join Zepto from ecommerce giant Flipkart in July 2021, will be in charge of combining the buy-side and sell-side category teams, company said.
Meanwhile, as COO, Vikas Sharma will now supervise operations from the back-end distribution hubs to the last-mile, as well as supply planning. As Zepto's chief growth officer, Jhaveri will oversee all aspects of customer acquisition, retention, and branding.
Jhaveri will take over as chief growth officer from Amritansu Nanda, who is leaving Zepto to pursue other opportunities.
In May of last year, Zepto raised USD 200 million at a valuation of USD 900 million. Zepto competes in the online grocery industry alongside Swiggy Instamart, Tata-backed BigBasket, Zomato-owned Blinkit, and Reliance-backed Dunzo.
Top Leadership Reshuffle
Zepto's reorganisation follows changes in top management at other food and grocery delivery startups, including Zomato and Swiggy.
Gurgaon-based Zomato promoted Rakesh Ranjan and Rinshul Chandra to chief executive officer and chief operating officer of the food ordering and delivery verticals, respectively, earlier this month. Rishi Arora has also been named CEO of the company's business-to-business vertical Hyperpure.
