Startup Licious FY22 Loss Jumps To Rs 856 Cr

In FY22, Licious witnessed its expenses grow nearly tow-fold to Rs 1,191 crore from Rs 642 crore in the previous financial year

Due to a significant increase in its goods procurement costs, as well as promotional and employee finance costs, Licious' FY22 loss decreased by 2.3 times to Rs 856 crore from Rs 370 crore in the previous fiscal.

According to its most recent filings with the Registrar of Companies, Licious, operated by Delightful Gourmet, reported a 64.6 percent increase in its consolidated revenue from operations in FY22, at Rs 683 crore, up from nearly Rs 415 crore the previous year (RoC). The company earned Rs 665 crore from product sales and Rs 12 crore from service sales.

In FY22, Licious witnessed its expenses grow nearly tow-fold to Rs 1,191 crore from Rs 642 crore in the previous financial year. The cost of raw materials, which included meat, poultry, and seafood, accounted for the majority of total expenses at Rs 554 crore, an increase from Rs 319 crore in FY21.

Meanwhile, the company's employee benefits expense increased 76.5 percent to Rs 210 crore in the previous fiscal year, up from Rs 119 crore in FY21. Furthermore, its advertising costs increased to Rs 170 crore in the fiscal under review.

Licious, which delivers fresh meat, eggs, and seafood to customers' homes, saw its transportation and distribution costs rise to Rs 65 crore from Rs 28 crore the previous fiscal.

Founded by Hanjura and Vivek Gupta in 2015, Licious acquired the status of unicorn in October last year after it snagged $52 million in a funding round led by IIFL AMC’s Late-Stage Tech Fund. Furthermore, the company also raised $192 million in its Series F round led by Temasek and Multiples Private Equity players in June 2021.
