Prione Strengthens Its Presence Across 50 Cities in India

Empowers 42,000 Small to Medium Businesses with the capabilities to sell Online

Prione Business Services Pvt Ltd, a joint venture between Catamaran Ventures and Amazon, today announced the expansion of its footprint to 50+ cities in India through direct presence and Franchisee partners. Since its inception in 2014, Prione has empowered over 42,000 small and medium businesses (SMBs) across India effectively adopt digital technologies to sell their products in the online marketplace. With the expansion, Prione will tap into a wider SMB market and include diverse product category offerings like Apparel, Electronics, Books, Home Decor and Jewellery. 

“India has an SMB base of 50 million sellers. A majority of the current e-commerce sellers are primarily based in metros like Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru. However, we are witnessing the e-commerce market growing and demand for products from tier 2 and 3 cities increasing. Factors like increased smartphone adoption and internet penetration are the key growth drivers in this change,” says Sandeep Varaganti, COO of Prione. “Prione is looking to expand its reach and enable these untapped markets through our Franchisee Partner Program so that sellers are digitally empowered to sell across borders and get easier access to a wider marketplace,” he adds.

Prione’s Franchisee Partner Program focuses on setting up seller acquisition and servicing hubs partnering with qualified service partners in cities like Erode, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Gwalior, Amritsar, Solapur, Nashik and Jabalpur to name a few. There are three services that Prione’s Franchisee partners provide to sellers in these cities, namely - seller acquisition and training, product imaging, and short term account management. Extensive training sessions and special workshops are conducted in these cities by the partner program to businesses who want to start selling online.

Speaking on the program, “As a Prione Franchisee partner, we have been able to up-skill 1200 SMBs and help them sell their products online; thereby increasing their sales by 25-30 percent. Additionally, with the extensive account management training we provide, these small to medium businesses have been able to increase the range of product categories they offer,” says, Siva Kumar, Managing Director, K V Services an organisation based out of Erode, Tamil Nadu. “Enabling these SMBs to sell online has helped them go beyond their usual customer base, and reach a wider audience in a very cost-effective way,” he adds

According to an ASSOCHAM-Resurgent India study, the number of consumers who purchase goods and services online is expected to cross 100 million by the end of 2017. And, with the Goods and Service Tax (GST) being rolled out, sellers will be incentivised to sell online as the GST will make state-to-state border taxation simple, and small businesses will be able to easily operate across India. With increasing awareness and initiatives from the Government and industry player, there is a bright future that awaits Indian businesses.
