Storytelling start-up Pratilipi has raised INR 20 crore in venture debt funding from Alteria Capital. The Bengaluru-based start-up’s parent company, Nasadiya Technologies had raised over $9 million in 2020 from Omidyar Network among others. The platform was founded in 2015, with the aim to primarily focus on Indian languages.
It has writers catering to an audience in over 10 Indian languages like Hindi, Marathi, Urdu, Telegu, and the like. The platform has 3,50,000 writers who have published 4.5 million stories thus far. The platform has a vast user base of over 2.5 Crore active readers who engage on the platform monthly.
As per their official website, “Pratilipi, derived from the Sanskrit word meaning ‘copy’ is a self-publishing website; it is a platform that brings together writers and readers in a virtual community that instigates a dialogue on literature in any language. It is the 21st century’s answer to the age-old tradition of storytelling but now instead of being huddled up near a fire, readers and writers perch with their laptop, desktop or mobile screens.”
