Meet 10 Startups Unicorn India Ventures Invested in 2018
Unicorn India Ventures is a Mumbai-based fund house with both equity and debt funds under its belt. UIV was started in 2015 by Anil Joshi and Bhaskar Majumdar. The Fund House has recently launched a UK India cross border fund, which will invest in UK-based startups looking to enter India. From its first equity fund, UIV has invested in close to 20 companies like VLCC VanityCube, Inc42, Sequretek, Pharmarack,GrabonRent, Inntot, Genrobotics, SectorQube, Perfit, NeuroEquilibrium, SmartCoin, Open, Boxx.ai, Clootrack to name a few. Below is the list of 10 Indian startups that raised funding from Unicorn India Ventures in 2018.
Sequretek (Raised close to $4 million bridge round in September 2018)

Sequretek, one of India’s fastest growing cyber-security company, raised Rs 27 crores in a bridge round in 2018. The round has been led by Unicorn India Ventures and co-investors include GVFL and Sharad Sanghi, MD & CEO, Netmagic. Both Unicorn India Ventures and GVFL invested in Sequretek last year in a pre Series A round. Sharad Sanghi had invested in this round in a personal capacity. This was the 2nd institutional round raised by Sequretek. The Company was started in 2013 by Pankit Desai and Anand Naik with an aim to simplify security for the enterprises.
Inntot (Seed round raised in June 2018)

Software defined radio startup Inntot Technologies raised a seed round from Unicorn India Ventures in June last year. Inntot is looking to use the capital raised in this round to procure hi-tech testing equipments and beefing up its management team for several operational functions. Founded in 2014 by Rajith Nair and Prasanth Thankappan, Inntot develops software solutions to negate the use of specialised hardware chipsets with an aim to reduce the cost of digital radio receivers for OEMs.
GrabOnRent (Follow on round raised in April 2018)

GrabOnRent is an online product rental marketplace that essentially aggregates various suppliers in the market who own brick-and-mortar shops for rentals. The startup that was founded in 2015, by IIT-Guwahati graduates Shubham Jain, Manish Sugandhi & Aditya Sharma, had closed a round of $2 million from existing investors Unicorn India Ventures and Ivy Cap Ventures in April 2018. It had raised its first round of $1 million from the same investors in 2016.
Open (Raised pre-series A round in May 2018)

Fintech startup Open was founded in 2017 by serial entrepreneurs Anish Achuthan, Mabel Annie Chacko and Ajeesh Achuthan along with former TaxiForSure CFO, Deena Jacob. Open which offers a digital banking service for small businesses in collaboration with banks, raised a pre-series A funding round in May 2018 led by Unicorn India Ventures and Recruit Co. Ltd, a subsidiary of the Recruit Group of Japan.
SectorQube (Raised seed funding in February 2018)

Unicorn India Ventures in February 2018 announced its investment in SectorQube, a Kerala based startup launched in 2011 by six passionate engineers – Sabarish Prakash, Nibu Alias, Ani Abraham Joy, Arjun S, Midhun Skaria, and Biniyas VL. SectorQube works on making smart kitchen appliances and is working on next-generation Roti Maker. The funds raised will be used to complete the Roti Maker and make it market-ready. They also plan to use the funds to fast track their R&D and begin tooling and manufacturing the product.
Genrobotics (Raised seed funding in February 2018)

Unicorn India Ventures in February last year had invested in Kerala-based startup, Genrobotics, founded in 2015 by Rashid Bin Abdulla, Vimal Govind MK, Nikhil NP and Arun George. Genrobotics has developed ‘Bandicoot’, an automated robot to clean the sewage systems as a solution to eradicate manual scavenging. The funds raised from Unicorn India will aid in developing a market-ready version of Bandicoot and scale up the business.
Perfit (Raised seed funding in February 2018)

Another Kerala startup in which Unicorn India Ventures invested last year was Perfit, founded in 2015 by Eobin George & Sai Santosh specialises in 3D body scanning systems for fashion and healthcare industry. The seed round will help deploy their first commercial product line – Perfit Uniform Solutions. Also, they plan to double their team strength, set up a new development centre and fast-track research and development.
SmartCoin (Raised pre-series A round in March 2018)

SmartCoin, a Bengaluru-based micro-lending startup founded in 2016 by IIT and IIM alumni Rohit Garg, Amit Chandel, Vinay Kumar Singh and Jayant Upadhyay, raised $2 million in a pre-series A round of funding led by a Chinese Venture fund and co-invested by US-based Accion Venture lab in March 2018. Unicorn India Ventures and ISME ACE, a Mumbai-based fin-tech accelerator also participated in this round. Unicorn India had invested an in SmartCoin in April 2017. Unicorn had led the round with participation from other angel investors.
Inc42 (Raised follow on round in 2018)

Inc 42 a tech-focused, news and events startup founded in January 2014 by Vaibhav Agarwal, Pooja Sareen and Utkarsh Agarwal, raised a follow on round from Unicorn India Ventures last year. Prior to this, they have raised a pre-series A round led by Unicorn India Ventures and Aarin Capital in 2016 which was utilised to build the technology arm of the company.
Pharmarack (Raised follow on round in 2018)

Pune-based Pharmarack started in 2015 by Amit Backliwal, Pradyumn Singh & Kushal Bhandari offers order processing and inventory management platform for pharma retailers and distributors. The startup had raised a follow on round of funding this year led by Unicorn India Ventures. It had previously raised Rs 5 crore in Pre-Series A round of investment from Unicorn India Ventures in 2016.
