Flipkart Ventures Into Hotel Booking Services

It will make the hospitality sector more competitive. New travel trends are expected to boost the travel industry

Ecommerce giant Flipkart has entered the travel sector with the launch of Flipkart Hotels, its hotel booking service. The giant has proclaimed that it will offer budget-friendly service. Guests can choose from around 3 lakh domestic and international hotels.

The service will be facilitated by Cleartrip, Flipkart’s online travel aggregator (OTA) arm, and it will use the ticketing platform’s API to scout hotels. In April last year, the giant acquired Cleartrip in a deal worth $40 million.

Now the main app will have a separate section for hotel bookings, which will eventually lead to heavy footfall on Flipkart’s app.

The ecommerce company may be able to increase numbers and engagement for hotel owners listed on the platform after becoming a permanent fixture on the portal. To boost bookings, products such as EMI options for Flipkart Hotels users will be available.

In a press statement, Flipkart said that a dedicated customer care centre has been established to assist customers with user-related queries for their convenience and to provide a great experience.

After this development, Flipkart is a direct competitor to the hospitality major OYO and others such as Trivago, Airbnb, and Booking.com. Flipkart will make the industry more competitive.

The e-commerce behemoth is betting on a post-pandemic boom in domestic and international hotel reservations to drive uptake.

Furthermore, Flipkart added that so far, 2022 has been a fantastic year for the hospitality business, with a significant increase in demand in both the domestic and international accommodation markets. Exploring lesser-known destinations, workations, long stays, and holiday rentals are becoming popular new travel trends. These advances are boosting the travel industry.
