5 Security And Privacy Settings For Whatsapp You Should Know

The news of mishandling of data of around 50 million users by Cambridge Analytica caused a stir in social media universe. After the tweet of Whatsapp Co-founder Brain Acton to delete Facebook, social media users now feel a need to secure their whatsapp data also. Few days back, Indian Army also issued an advisory to safeguard the phone data from Chinese hackers. Here are some security settings in Whatsapp which you need to ensure:

Disable “Last seen” and “read receipts”

"Last seen" and "Read Receipts" are quite annoying for someone who expect prompt reply for their messages. Last seen feature allows you to see when a contact was online. Sometimes it may lead to misunderstandings. It's better to turn it off. Go to Settings > Accounts > Privacy and select "Nobody" for Last seen. Likewise you can deselect the "Read Receipts" so that people don’t know when you have read the messages, commonly notified by "double blue ticks".
