Voonik Hires Chief Data Scientist from Silicon Valley

Himmat Singh has come back from US after working with Groupon, leading their international data team. He comes with 14 years of rich experience in data science and insights field, across companies like Essar, Religare and holds a BE and MBA degree.

Voonik, India’s fashion marketplace, has announced the appointment of Himmat Singh Padode as its Chief Data Scientist. Company has been revamping the top leadership team recently and has appointed Prabhakar Sunder, former Finance Head of Myntra, as CFO and Amazon Veteran Raghu Lakkapragada as COO. But this is the first time that the company has hired directly from Silicon Valley. Himmat will report to CEO Sujayath Ali.

Speaking on his appointment, Mr. Sujayath Ali, CEO & Founder, Voonik.com said, “At Voonik, we are creating a technology driven fashion platform. Our key strength is our data- driven personalization model. As we grow and diversify, we want to get more precise on our personalization model and add layers and habits into the algorithm to show a highly personalised feed. Himmat has hands-on experience in data driven personalization and prediction models and is an ideal person to lead Voonik’s Data team”.

Mr. Himmat Singh commented on his new role, “Voonik is building one-of-a-kind data based fashion company. I think, adding analytics to a completely impulse purchase based fashion category, is a leap of faith. I am very excited about the prospects of the role and the culture of the company.”

Voonik has over 20 million registered users, with 17 million app downloads. On the supply side, it has over 15 lakh products from more than 22,000 sellers. Voonik has a scalable ‘lean’ marketplace business model where it operates without inventory and fulfilment centers.
