Truecaller Officially Surpasses FB to be 4th Most Downloaded in India

The Mary Meeker Internet Trends 2017 report is out, and this year's report has a lot of focus on India growing amidst intense competition and how the consumers are winning. Amidst all the digital growth noise India’s Internet users continue to grow, and now stands at 355 million. It puts India at number two in the market, just behind China, the leader.

Mary Meeker is an American venture capitalist with VC industry pioneering firm KPCB (Kleiner Perkins, Caufield and Byers). Her prolific career as an author has chronicled the business of internet and digital technology and the Mary Meeker Internet Trends report is an annual event the industry anticipates and swears by in equal proportions.

Meeker’s analysis continues to be highly regarded because of her acumen in the field. She serves on the boards of Square, Lending Club and DocuSign and has been involved in KPCB’s investments in Airbnb, Pinterest, Slack, Snap, SoundCloud and Spotify. She also led KPCB’s investments in Bitstrips (acquired by Snap), Waze (acquired by Google / Alphabet), JD.com, Groupon and Facebook.

Mary Meeker’s report further highlights that four out of the top ten India downloads are American and are all products by Facebook Inc., with Indian and Chinese apps sharing the honor of having two apps each in the top ten most downloaded chart for India. JioTV makes a massive jump from 301st to the ninth most downloaded app, with Reliance Jio and their free data deals possibly being a contributory factor. The top ten downloaded apps are all used for communication or entertainment.

Truecaller has done well to reach number four from its previous position at number eleven. The Swedish company earlier this year launched a ramped up version, Truecaller 8.0 replete with features for text messaging and video calling.
