Sequoia Backed Urban Ladder Partners with Sequoia Backed HomeLane

The two online furniture platforms backed by Sequoia are partnering to access a combined, larger customer base.

Urban Ladder, India’s leading home furnishing brand has announced it is partnership with, a fast growing home-interiors startup. This partnership is a part of Urban Ladder’s - ‘UL Co-lab’ programme, an initiative to connect and build a community of interior designers on one platform.

Urban Ladder was cofounded by Ashish Goel and Rajiv Srivatsa in July 2012. One of the better known ecommerce furniture and home décor brands, they provide a curated destination for home solutions with over 2000 products and 35 categories such as wardrobes, sofas, beds, dining tables and storage shelves. Urban Ladder has a series of investors like Ratan Tata, Kalaari Capital, SAIF Partners and Sequoia Capital. Sequoia Capital participated in investing rounds as late and matured as the series E round of funding.

HomeLane is one of India’s fastest growing home interiors startup founded in 2014. HomeLane features over 150 designers, and a VR-based space planning tool called Spacecraft. It is backed by investors like Sequoia, Growth Story, Aarin Capital and Baring Private Equity VC. Sequoia invested in both A and B rounds of funding, the latest round was for an investment of 50 million dollars in June 2015.

Through this partnership Urban Ladder’s uniquely designed furniture, ranging from living, dining, bedroom and home décor items, will be made available to customers through the HomeLane catalogue. It will also be integrated into HomeLane owned touch-points such as, model apartments, experience centres and HomeLane’s Virtual Reality (VR)-based room planner - Spacecraft. Urban Ladder furniture is currently available at HomeLane experience centres in Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai and Bangalore.

HomeLane uses VR as well as deep design-to-manufacturing technology to make high-quality interiors affordable and accessible to urban Indian middle-class homeowners. Urban Ladder has carved a niche for itself by curating a range of exceptionally high quality products that speak a distinctive design language.

Through this partnership, HomeLane customers will now have the option of complementing their HomeLane fit-out selection of modular kitchens, wardrobes, entertainments modules and other storage units with distinct and thoughtfully designed loose furniture and home decor items from Urban Ladder. All of this will be available to customers under HomeLane’s 45 days delivery or they pay rent guarantee.

“Through this partnership, we will leverage design sensibilities of both brands and seamlessly create designs that are cohesive and complete,” said Sanjay Gupta, chief marketing officer, Urban Ladder.
