Punjab-Based Market Place App Humhain Growing Big In Lockdown

Earlier just a pick and drop service, now this app is a full-fledged online shopping mart with multiple categories and stores to pick from across six major cities in Punjab

The Humhain App claims to be the only app in Punjab that delivers medicine, groceries, and other essentials in the six major cities in the state. It claims rivals and the major national brands including BigBasket for groceries, Swiggy for food,"do not deliver" all items together, a claim that BW Businessworld can not confirm. However, post lockdown, the Humhain App claims increased sales in cities like Chandigarh, Jalandhar, Amritsar, Ludhiana and others. According to Milind Kwatra, Founder & CEO, Humhain, from delivering 150 orders a day to now 1000+ orders a day, Humhain App is the first choice of residents of these cities across Punjab.

Alongside this, Kwatra says the company has four new revenue streams that are clocking twice the revenue of just delivery income alone. One way is by broadening the services – earlier which served only domestic pick and drop services - has moved to multiples categories and stores available for the customers to order from.

Presently, the charges per delivery are around Rs 80-90 without any restriction on any minimum or maximum amount. Specifically, charges are as per distance and time with customers can get anything picked up, bought, or dropped anywhere in Punjab. Also, the company shares delivery charges with the riders.

With 100 riders currently working for the company, Humhain takes 40 per cent of the charges earned and rest goes to the riders. Comparatively, food delivery companies Swiggy and Zomato pay fixed amounts per delivery to the riders. Humhain has in total of 10 employees including the co-founding team, the rest, delivery riders are on contract and receive the charges first and the company takes a commission from them.

Milind Kwatra, Founder & CEO, Humhain, shared, “Company started in 2015 with an investment of Rs. 15000 that was earned by selling second-hand vehicles to people. After two years, we raised an investment of Rs. 10 lakhs and then Rs. 35 lakhs last year.” In total, the company claimed to have delivered the amount of stuff amounting to around eight crores and done deliveries for delivery charges worth one crore plus.

The company plans to onboard more and more customers by growing further into tier 2 and tier 3 cities by bringing the top 50 to 100 stores on the app. It wants to explore various other categories and decrease delivery time.
