MPOWER Plans Series B Round; Mihup Returns With a B2B Model; Vijay Shekhar Sharma Joins Careers360’s Advisory Board & More

FMCG firm Marico has appointed Myntra-Jabong CEO Ananth Narayanan on its board as an additional (Independent) Director

Here is a list of deals that happened in Indian Startup Ecosystem today. Read a brief description about all of them:

1. Fin-tech company MPOWER Financing Inc, which facilitates loans for international students pursuing higher education in the US, is looking to raise a Series B round to strengthen its India presence and cater to loan growth, reported VCCircle.

2. Kolkata-based Mihup Communications Pvt Ltd, which operated artificial intelligence-based personal mobile assistant app Mihup, has resumed its operations by pivoting to a business-to-business model.

In its new avatar, the company provides voice recognition based interfaces for devices and applications, which can respond and act to spoken queries or commands. “We are attempting to combine and tackle the problem of recognition of Indian languages and the varied dialects with respect to voice-based recognition systems. Most Indian languages have several dialects. For example, Bengali language itself has about 16 varied dialects,” Biplab Chakraborty, co-founder of the venture said.

3. Online career counselling and education services firm Careers360, which is operated by Pathfinder Publishing India Pvt. Ltd, has roped in industry stalwarts to its newly-formed advisory board.

Paytm CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma, founder Murugavel Janakiraman, Ashoka University founder Pramath Raj Sinha and Prism Cement MD Vijay Aggarwal have joined the Delhi-based company’s advisory board.

“It was important for us to have the right mix of visionary entrepreneurs who have also been great students themselves….We hope to leverage their expertise to further our mission of impacting students, careers and lives,” Maheshwer Peri, founder of Careers360, said in a statement.

4. FMCG firm Marico has appointed Myntra-Jabong CEO Ananth Narayanan on its board as an additional (Independent) Director, for a five year time.

With Narayanan's appointment, Marico's board now has six independent directors besides chairman and non-executive director Harsh Mariwala, MD & CEO Saugata Gupta and two non- executive directors.

Narayanan joined Myntra as CEO in July 2015 and has led multiple strategic acquisitions including rival Jabong from Global Fashion Group for $70 million.
