Josh Talks Gets Backing from Freshworks Founder and Investors to Expand to Vernacular Content

Josh Talks recently raised an undisclosed amount of funding from the likes of Global Brand Director of HCL and founder of Freshworks.

The goal of Josh Talks is to create an India where every young individual has a sense of purpose. By using storytelling as a tool, the startup produces video content that not only inspires, but drives you to take positive action in your own life. The organisation has recently raised an undisclosed amount of funding from a number of prominent angel investors including Apurva Chamaria, the global brand director of HCL; Girish Mathrubootham, the founder of Freshworks and Rohit Chanana, head of strategy and finance at Hero Corporation to name a few.

Josh Talks was started in the year 2015 by two, twenty one year olds - Shobhit Banga and Supriya Paul with a simple mission to raise the aspirations of young India. Over the last 2 years, the organisation has scaled its conferences to over 25 cities in India and reached out to more than 65,000 attendees on ground and over 25 million viewers online. Josh Talks content is now available to watch on Youtube, Facebook, JIO Chat, Dekkho, YuppTv, Uber, Scoopwhoop and more. Their recently launched Podcast is rated 30 on iTunes, in all of India and has been trending on Saavn and BookMyShow - Jukebox ever since the launch.

The fundraise was a medium to get strategic mentors and advisors on board who can help launch and grow Josh Talks in vernacular languages like Telegu ,Tamil ,Bengali ,Marathi and Bhojpuri and help scale the movement to the masses.

Speaking about the funding, Shobhit Banga, cofounder of Josh Talks, said, “The last two years have been a proof of concept for us and the money we have raised now is to scale our content and take it to larger audiences and people all across India."

Supriya Paul, cofounder added, “Our target audience comprises of 16 to 25 year olds in tier 2, 3 and 4 cities who are completely unexposed and don’t know what the world has to offer. The funding and guidance from the investors will help us launch in vernacular languages and create an impact among this audience.”

Girish Mathrubootham, founder of Freshworks said, “In today's fast-paced life, young people often lose track of what is important and we need a platform like Josh Talks to remind them. Everybody needs heroes they can relate to. Being a diverse country with many languages we need to reach the Indian youth present in every nook and corner, so going into vernaculars is a no-brainer and I am convinced Josh Talks is the right team for that job."    

Commenting on the association, Apurva Chamaria, global brand director, HCL, said, “India is a country which has extreme diversity in languages. A small portion of our population is left unexplored only because they are not English speaking, and this is where Josh Talks comes into play. They reach out to this audience and inspire those whose aspirations and dreams die due to societal conditioning and obligation to join family businesses at an early age. Just like in the case of Josh Talks.”

Josh Talks recently partnered with the largest social networking service provider, Facebook, to launch a campaign #StartAb to inspire 100,000 young individuals to take up entrepreneurship by April 2018.
