Indian Bio-Economy to Reach $ 100 billion by 2025, predicts BIRAC at Women Entrepreneurship Summit 2019 Hosted by TiE Delhi-NCR

BIRAC extends capital benefits to aspiring women biotech startups in the range (Rs 50 lakh- 700 lakh)

Hosted by TiE Delhi-NCR, Women Entrepreneurship Summit: New Horizons 2019 successfully facilitated major knowledge-sharing panels on new ideas, lifestyle businesses, funding dilemma. This was followed by BIRAC’s role in enabling women entrepreneurship in biotech and women in tech among other sessions. With this, TiE Delhi-NCR aimed to provide an interactive platform to women leaders from diverse genres to guide, empower and accelerate the growth trajectory of the next-gen women entrepreneurs in India.

Addressing the session around biotech women entrepreneurs and BIRAC’s role in enabling them, Dr Manish Diwan, Head – Strategic Partnership & Entrepreneurship Development, BIRAC, said, “Among all of our beneficiaries, the 60+ women founders that we facilitate have shown great aptitude in converting opportunities into value. Federal agencies like BIRAC act as enablers, facilitators, and incubators for budding start-ups. Our aim is also to encourage the next batch of biotech entrepreneurs to perceive their venture not as a nice-to-have option but a sincere vision.”
“The Indian bio-economy stood at $ 50 billion in 2018. Innovations in biotech along with sincere efforts of all stakeholders can unlock the limitless potential of this space, enabling it to reach $ 100 billion by 2025,” he added.

On receiving the WomENABLER Award, Sairee Chahal, Founder & CEO, Sheroes, commented, “I have been part of the TiE family for a long time and it is a matter of great honour for me to be named one of the WomENABLERs for the year 2019. I envision building a space where a hundred million women and more can be part of the ecosystem. That’s how you create a $ 5 trillion economy.”

Speaking at the event, Geetika Dayal, Executive Director – TiE Delhi-NCR, said, “The idea behind Women Entrepreneurship Summit is to celebrate the achievements of women highfliers in entrepreneurship while accelerating the aspirations of emerging women innovators through an interactive platform. This falls in line with the TiE Delhi-NCR’s overarching mission of providing mentorship, networking, and funding opportunities to budding entrepreneurs across the country.”

To recognize the contribution of women leaders in the ecosystem, the WomENABLER Award was also conferred upon Dr Anita Gupta, Director/Scientist & Associate Head, NSTEDB, Department of Science & Technology, Government of India, Indra Sood, Leadership & HR Professional, Sopaan, and Anuradha Das Mathur, Founder & Dean, Vedica Scholars Programme for Women and Managing Director, CFO Collective; Founder Director, 9.9 Group.
